“Best of the best…”
When you find out your house has MAJOR water damage, you want the best of the best doing the repairs.
At least that’s how we felt this spring when we learned that we had a much bigger problem on our hands than just some internal water damage on our windowsills.
Turns out, all the flashings on our house are installed incorrectly, backwards… probably upside down and inside out too!
So, rather than the endless hours of PNW rain running down the outside of our siding all winter long (and the 19 winters prior), much of it has been running down the inside.
Causing dry rot.
Which means crumbling framing and rotten exterior walls.
And internal windowsills and wall damage.
A disaster.
That had to be fixed before something much worse occurred!
So, I researched.
I called various companies, not having a clue who would be the best.
I left messages and sent emails.
Read every review I could find.
Paid attention to who called me back.
What their customer service was like.
And eventually, I found them – SFW Construction.
Based in Tigard, OR but serving Seattle as well.
They are going to be the best!
I knew it based on their responsiveness, their helpfulness, their honesty, and all the positive reviews I found online.
And when they showed up that first day, I knew I was right.
Their crew was kind, hardworking, and courteous in every single interaction and step of the process.
My neighbor even commented that they were the most respectful and friendly people they have ever encountered doing home repairs.
The crew lead explained everything and showed me how things were supposed to be versus how they were. He answered all my questions and gave me options.
They took pictures and documented everything.
I received updates every couple days as the bill added up, always allowing me to stop the project if it was going to go over budget.
Of course, they were over my desired budget on day one. So, the work continued until they finished the repairs on the South and West side of our house.
Now, having the most damaged areas taken care of, we feel relieved to know that these repairs are covered for life. And if we run into more problems, I can simply give SFW a call.
Although painful to deal with this and the huge inconvenience and cost associated with it, a couple of key thoughts stand out to me.
First, we get what we pay for.
Sometimes we don’t need the highest quality, and sometimes we really do. It’s worth it to determine our expectations and then seek out the expertise (or not) that’s needed. I’m so relieved we didn’t cut corners on this project!
And second, customer service will always be important.
Even in this world of increased automation, AI phone services, instant/free/easy transactions; the human connection and feeling of being heard, taken care of, and valued will always have you stand out above the rest.
This, like so many other past experiences, demonstrates that when the service and the quality are beyond my greatest expectations, I’m more than willing to pay the cost.
