“Healthy Meals…”
Shared by Kristina Smedley
My dream purchase is a contract with a personal chef!
I really want to eat healthy.
I feel better when I do. I have more energy. I’m happier and probably kinder.
And my confidence increases with a more fit and toned body.
Even with all of these known benefits, eating healthy feels like a lot of work. And consumes a lot of precious time!
Time… planning what to eat, considering what both Sennad and I like, buying groceries, and that’s all before getting to the cooking and cleaning part!
I’ve tried all sorts of solutions to this time issue.
Eating out every meal, menu delivery apps, BlueApron, Hello Fresh, and other grocery and/or meal ingredient delivery services.
I’ve had pre-made meals delivered on Sundays and then ate them all week. I have to say, this is my least favorite. I mean, left-overs are OK, but eating food on Friday that was delivered on Sunday is going a little too far.
I even tried to convince Sennad that he wanted to be the cook of the family. No such luck. However, he is on board to help.
So, here’s our proven process to make this complex time/health issue a little easier.
–> Breakfast: Sennad wakes up each morning to make us a healthy smoothie.
–> Lunch: Every Sunday, I make 5 salads in mason jars. The trick is, put the dense, not likely to wilt or get soggy, items on the bottom (i.e. radishes or bell papers), then add the other toppings (cucumbers, zucchini, yellow squash, black beans, etc), and put the lettuce on top.
Nothing gets soggy, the lettuce is fresh and crisp even five days later, and when you dump in on your plate it looks beautiful and tasty!
–> Dinner: I don’t have this totally down yet, but I do love the eMeals app. It’s worth a try if you haven’t used it before. We are able to choose a type of food we like and then we get recipes each week to select from. It puts all the ingredients for all the selected meals into one shopping list, organized by the grocery store department. And many recipes within a week use similar ingredients (i.e. cilantro or parsley) so there is less food waste.
If I’m really trying to save time, I send the shopping list to InstaCart and have all the ingredients delivered.
Then, it’s just about making enough time each evening to cook, eat, and clean! And the trick here is to do it with someone I love… usually Sennad, but sometimes it’s just Lexi-dog waiting to snatch up anything I drop on the floor!
So, until one day when I can hire a professional chef, I’ll continue trying to simplify and speed up the healthy eating process.
I would love to hear any of your ideas and suggestions!
