“Tomorrow’s Gonna Suck…”

“Tomorrow’s gonna suck…”
Really, that’s not completely true. However, there are certain things I do in a day that strongly correlate to how to feel when I wake up the next morning.
Make the bed
Meditate
Break a sweat
Eat clean
Drink 75 oz of water
Read/Listen to a Podcast
No phone in bed
Asleep before 10pm
Today, however, I went straight from volleyball practice to spend four hours in the ER with my daughter who had an allergic reaction to peanut butter with grandma earlier.
No working out. Water intake stopped. Change of dinner plans…Chipotle it is! And clearly, it’s past 10pm. At least Tim Ferris was playing in the car on my way from volleyball to the ER, so check that one off the list!
Of course, Charlee is more important than my list of “things” I need to do. I was exactly where I needed to be tonight, with my girl and her dad.
It got me thinking. It’s not what we do once in a while that makes us who we are. It’s the little things we do consistently that shape us. One day off track isn’t going to make or break me.
Consistency is key.
When I am consistently doing the things mentioned above, the benefits go beyond “feeling good” when I wake up in the morning. It’s more than self-care just for my own welfare.
I am a more patient mother.
I am more focused on listening to my husband rather than trying to talk.
I show up to my classes energized and ready to teach.
I am present.
So yes, tomorrow morning I may not feel my best. But tomorrow I get to recommit to the little things I do that make me the wife, mother, teacher, daughter, and friend that I strive to be.
Because I never want to look back and realize that I could have done better if only I made the bed every day.
