“Repetitive Routines Suck…”
Shared by Kristina Smedley
This really is how I feel. I don’t like repetitive routines, boring and tedious tasks that are the same every time, over and over. I like the fun of a little chaos throughout the day… organized, but a little like a tornado.
It’s hard for me to imagine how some people get up early every morning to work out…
Don’t they want to stay up too late sometimes and then click snooze up until the very last moment when they have to jump out of bed and rush to work??
Doesn’t it get boring to go to the same coffee shop every morning, do the same work, and head home to the same routine??
I say that… but I also say:
“The science and personal stories from practicing meditation daily are fascinating.”
“WOW… so many successful, fulfilled people’s stories include a daily mindfulness practice. (thanks for the insights Tim Ferris podcast)”
“I can’t believe these other Peleton users just completed 30 straight days of cycling! (seriously, how?!)”
“I want to be in better shape… I know it gives me more energy.”
“Writing an IOD every day is going to be a challenge; at least the weekends are optional.”
As Sennad and I were driving home from Spokane this weekend, he uncovered the most insightful secret… one reason why he’s amazing!
“You’re in a catch 22, you want everything that comes with a committed routine, but you don’t like routines, think they’re boring, and like-new excitement every day.”
Yikes. I thought it was cool to not have strict routines; that I was having more fun and adventure without one.
Funny thing though…Months ago I bought the book to teach me how to do this – Own the Day, Own Your Life by Aubrey Marcus.
But I haven’t read it. Deep in my mind, routines suck.
It’s crazy how one obvious, I mean insightful, comment from Sennad was what I needed to change my outlook.
A morning routine that includes meditating, working out on my Peleton bike, enjoying a relaxing cup of coffee… this will be my morning routine, clearing my mind and body in prep for a fantastic day that can then include a little chaos and excitement!
Substantial progress that can be made in a short time by sticking to a routine and action that enables 1% improvement every day. I just have to choose to do it.
How are you guys and gals with routines?
Any tips or tricks that you’ve found helpful?
