“PR of 1…”

“PR of 1…”

And I’m pumped about it today!

A Personal Record of 1 might seem weird.
Especially since that means the prior PR was less than 1!
So… 0?!

Not a lot to get excited about, you might think!
So, let me explain…

A few years ago, Sennad Fallak and I worked out with an awesome group of people at Beach Fitness in Seal Beach, CA. We did their RepX class a few times a week, made some awesome friends, and were in the best shape of our lives.

Class was like the cardio part of a Crossfit class, but an hour long!

Competition.
Teams.
Running.
Rowing.
Kettlebells.
Box Jumps.
Wall Balls.
.
.
.
And PULL-UPs!

And this is where I achieved my PR of 1!

After months of building up to it, I was able to do a full from dead hang, unassisted, no kipping pull-up!

Something I hadn’t done since 8th grade.
And wow did it feel good!

I was so proud of myself and also in disbelief.

Pull-ups had never been my strength… actually nothing upper body was ever my strong suit!

I loved practicing my 1 pull-up after class each day!
I loved achieving something I didn’t think was possible.
I loved feeling proud of myself and for others to be proud of me!

Then, life changed.
I started school again.
Became a manager at work.

And suddenly the 5pm REPX class didn’t fit well in my life any longer.

So I switched gears, started pilates, and bought a Peloton bike (that I LOVE)… And never did another pull up.

I’m back to 0 pull-ups and likely needing the strongest support band to even get 1 in!

So, why am I pumped about my PR of 1 today?

Because I just ordered a pull-up bar that we’re going to install in our garage.

And next month I’ll be completing my first GRIT challenge with our StoryAthlete team (assuming I’m cleared to workout).

I don’t know how long it will take me to do 1 strict pull-up again; but I’m excited to start working on it.

Stay tuned… the next goal will be to break that PR!

In all aspects of life – body, mind, business, relationships, we have the choice to look back and long for things that once were OR we can choose to take the first steps forward.

Leaders choose to take the first step.
StoryAthletes choose to go first and share their journeys.

And I’m excited to get started!
