“Earned vs. Given…”

“Earned vs. Given…”

I read a stat the other day that nearly ⅓ of lottery winners file bankruptcy. And they’re more likely to file within three to five years, than the average American.

“The lottery is a tax on dumb people,” my college Econ professor would say.

Chances of winning are terrible.
1:Multi-Millions.

Players are just giving their money away.
Hoping to gain something rather than earn it.

To this day, I’ve still haven’t bought a lottery ticket.

Speaking of earning something rather than having it given to you…
I’m curious if there’s a correlation between how much effort a college student puts into their classes and how hard they have to work to pay for it.

Work could be through a job, a scholarship, etc.

I would expect that, when analyzed across the whole, the students who have to work in order to attend college are also showing up and trying harder in their classes.

They are putting their hard work to work.
Getting as much as they can from their experience.

I’m thankful my parents were able to help me pay for some of the college, and I also had to work very hard to pay my share.

There was no way I was going to screw around and not do well in my classes.

My degree and experience were certainly earned, not just given to me.

This seems to be consistent across most disciplines:
We value what we earn more than that which is given to us.

Breanne and I see this every day inside the 90 Day Immersion we are participating in to help build our business.

Paths and answers are never just given.

We are taught useful information, guided on how to research and study, and prompted in how we will apply in our business.

I think I can speak for both of us when I say that we have put tremendous amounts of time and energy into this endeavor, and are learning more than we ever could have imagined to ask someone.

We’ve studied other businesses.
Re-written our own ideas… multiple times.
Prioritized what we need to know and what can wait.

And we’ve spent hours and hours on Zoom together.

And slowly it’s coming together.
Everything is starting to take shape.
And with that, a whole new world of possibilities has opened up.

I’m proud of the hard work we are putting into our business.

And I’m proud to have the diligence and resilience to earn our business, not just expect someone to hand it to us.
