“What Do You Do” V2
Shared by Kristina Smedley
“What do you do?”
The inevitable, small talk question that we all ask one another when meeting for the first time…
“What do you do?”
I always pause.
How do I want to answer this question?
Then I stumble through my answer…
==>Do I take the easy route?
“I manage a program management team at Boeing.”
Enough said. That’s pretty clear.
Move on and talk about something else.
==>Do I try to explain my passions around this role?
Building people-centered work environments and cultures.
Where our teammates feel valued, able to contribute, and fulfilled.
==>Or, do I go deeper and share about our journey into Mindfluent® Leadership? A much more personal and moving part of my life.
We’re building a movement of women who are liberating themselves from their inner critics.
Building empowering mental states, perspectives, and beliefs.
In order to forge strong relationships and build communities.
To be impactful!
It’s so much harder for me to go here.
Because it’s also what I need.
It’s healing to my past wounds.
I’m empowering and freeing myself, while working with Breanne to build a proven process to help others.
And it’s already helping others.
Just yesterday, a friend shared that through reading our stories she is coming to see herself as “OK” and is realizing where she doesn’t want her inner critic to control her life any longer.
In a recent coaching conversation, Breanne’s friend noticed where her inner critic is holding her back in her new role and noticed her physiologic reaction to this internal judge’s grasp.
Increased awareness.
Curiosity of what’s really going on.
Fed up.
Disengaging and creating real change.
Mindfully evolving so we can be Inspirationally Impactful Leaders.
That’s the journey we’re on.
It’s the journey of many women (and men!) bound by their inner critics, but desiring to be greatly impactful in their lives.
And it’s the journey we’ll travel together through the 31 Day Challenge that Breanne and I are currently experimenting with and will be sharing soon.
==> So, “What do I do?”
The real answer is that my passion is to liberate women, including myself, from our inner critics, allowing us to be impactful leaders in our lives, careers, and communities.
But, do I go there when people ask.
Usually not.
It feels too personal.
It’s a lot to explain.
Sometimes I feel emotional when sharing.
But this is also how I know that what we are doing matters and exactly why I should be sharing more.
